About Us

Literacy Central was incorporated as the Nanaimo Literacy Association in 1990. We have grown both in catchment area and programs, now offering free tutoring services in Nanaimo, Gabriola Island and Ladysmith. We Provide four programs; Adult Literacy, Indigenous Literacy, Family Literacy and Youth literacy.

We thank Decoda Literacy Solutions and gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Ministry of Advanced Education as well as BC Gaming, City of Nanaimo, United Way and Rotary Clubs of Nanaimo and Lantzville.

The real strength of our organization is the over 150 highly knowledgeable and dedicated people that volunteer in our programs and bookstore including our Board of Directors.
